Ecommerce website development for UK retailers

We build online shops for UK retailers, makers and wholesalers: on WooCommerce when it fits, and as custom software when your orders follow rules a plugin cannot. WooCommerce stores start from £2,499, and custom builds are priced on your requirements.

Hosted store, WooCommerce or custom

If a hosted store such as Shopify does the job, use it. You do not need a developer for a simple catalogue and a card checkout, and we will say so on the call.

A hosted store or WooCommerce is enough when

  • You sell standard products at one price to the public.
  • Delivery is a flat rate or a simple table.
  • Stock sits in one place and you can count it.
  • You want to be selling this month and improve later.

Custom is worth it when

  • Prices change by customer, quantity or contract.
  • Products are configured, made to order or sold by weight.
  • Orders must reach a warehouse, a courier and an accounts package without retyping.
  • Monthly app and plugin fees have crept past the cost of owning the code.

What we build

Shops, and the unglamorous systems behind a shop.

WooCommerce stores
Catalogue, basket, checkout, card payments, delivery rules and the order emails customers expect, on a WordPress site you can edit.
Custom checkouts and ordering
Deposits, made-to-order products, minimum quantities, delivery slots or pricing by customer. The rules that turn a plugin stack into a tangle.
Trade and wholesale portals
Logged-in trade customers with their own price lists, repeat orders and invoices on account.
Stock and order back office
A custom or Filament admin dashboard for stock levels, picking, dispatch and returns, so the shop and the stockroom agree.
Connections to everything else
Payment providers, couriers, accounts software and marketplaces, so an order is typed once.

What an ecommerce site costs

A WooCommerce store is quoted as a fixed package. Custom builds are priced on your requirements, so those figures are starting points.

WooCommerce storeOur Custom website package with a shop, quoted on catalogue size and integrations. Includes 90 days of fixes.
From £2,499
Custom store, first versionOne ordering workflow, customer accounts and an admin. Usually 4 to 5 weeks.
From £1,999
Custom store, full productTrade and retail roles, an API and up to three integrations such as a courier and your accounts package. 10 to 12 weeks.
From £4,999
Larger custom platformMulti-tenant accounts, with an architecture and security review. Quoted after a call.
From £9,599

Custom prices move up or down with the size and complexity of the requirements, and you get a written proposal after the first call. Payment providers and couriers charge their own fees, which you pay to them directly.

How it works and how long it takes

The route depends on which kind of shop you need.

  1. A free call

    30 minutes

We ask what you sell, how many products, how orders are fulfilled and what goes wrong now. You leave knowing which of the three routes fits.

  2. Scope and price

    No charge

A WooCommerce store gets a written scope and a fixed quote. A custom system gets a written proposal covering the ordering flow, with the price and timeline for your requirements, agreed before the build starts.

  3. Build

4 to 10 weeks for custom

A custom MVP usually takes 4 to 5 weeks and a Product build 10 to 12. A WooCommerce launch date is agreed in the quote and depends mostly on product data and photography being ready.

  4. Launch and support

    From £199/mo

We test with real payments before go-live. Afterwards a support plan covers updates, backups and changes, or you can buy support hours separately, from £50 per hour, as needed.

What we build shops with

Chosen by how unusual your orders are.

WordPress and WooCommerce
For standard catalogues. A huge plugin library, and staff can learn the admin in an afternoon.
Laravel with a custom or Filament admin dashboard
For custom ordering rules and the back office. Your logic lives in code we control, not in a pile of plugins.
Next.js
For a fast shop front on top of a custom back end, when search traffic and page speed drive sales.
Stripe
Card payments handled by the provider, so card numbers never sit on your server.

Working with us from anywhere in the UK or worldwide

An online shop matters most to businesses a long way from their customers: a smokehouse in the Highlands, a nursery in Herefordshire, a potter in St Ives. We never need to see the stockroom. You send a product spreadsheet and photos, we talk through delivery rules on Google Meet, and you place test orders from your own kitchen table before anything goes live.

Questions buyers ask

Straight answers. If yours is not here, email us.

Should I use Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom build?
Shopify if you want the simplest route and standard products. WooCommerce if you want to own the site, edit it freely and already use WordPress. Custom if your pricing, products or fulfilment follow rules those platforms fight. We will give you a straight recommendation on the first call, including when it is not us.
How much does an ecommerce website cost?
A WooCommerce store with us starts from £2,499. A custom ordering system starts from £1,999 for a first version or from £4,999 for a multi-role product with integrations. Custom prices depend on your requirements, and you get a written proposal with the price and timeline after the first call. Payment and courier fees are separate and go to those providers.
Can you move my existing shop without losing my Google rankings?
We plan the move with a migration and redirect map, so every old product and category address points to its new one. That protects the links and history you have built. Nobody can guarantee rankings, but skipping the redirect map is the usual way they are lost.
Can the shop connect to my stock system, accounts or courier?
Usually, yes, provided the other system has an API or a reliable export. A Product build includes up to three integrations. We check the documentation during scoping, before you commit.
Who handles card payments and security?
A payment provider such as Stripe takes the card details on its own secure pages or fields, and your site only receives confirmation that the payment succeeded. Card numbers are never stored in your shop.
